I chose to illustrate Lettie Hempstock from one of my favourite novels; Neil Gaiman’s ‘The Ocean at the End of the Lane’. It’s a beautiful story about a young boy who encounters a trio of otherworldly women who live at the end of the lane. It’s written in such a way that it brings the extraordinary into everyday life.
Lettie Hempstock. A girl of eleven when she met the protagonist. She has red-brown hair that she wore relatively short and her nose was snub. She was freckled and had a soft Sussex accent and sharp gray-blue eyes. She lived with her mother and grandmother on the farm called Hempstock Farm.
